4'33" by John CageThe quietest piece of music ever written is 4'33' by American composer John Cage. It is performed by a pianist, who sits at his instrument for 4 minutes and 33 seconds, indicating by gestures that the work is in three movements while playing nothing. The music consists of any sound the audience can hear in the auditorium.

No wonder there's a MTV generation.
